A sustainable transition of the energy system towards an increasing share of bioenergy
The research project "A sustainable transformation of the energy system towards an increased proportion of bioenergy" focuses on biorefinancies and on the conversion to a bio-based economy.
The project is interdisciplinary and structured around three interrelated PhD projects:
- Markets and price determination
- Technologies and value chains
- Location and industrial change.
The overall systems perspective is based on the importance of biomass in the transition to a sustainable energy system in general, and to the efficient and sustainable spatial resource use and production, and to increased product value chains, in particular. The focus is on biorefineries and the transition towards a bioeconomy. A spatial approach is applied in combination with energy system analysis, technical development potentials and industrial applications linked with the supply of biological feed-stock and market and policy aspects.
The objectives are to: (1) contribute to the provision of skills and the development of systems analysis research in Sweden and (2) contribute with new knowledge to the sustainable transformation of the Swedish energy system.
About the project
The research project "A sustainable transition of the energy system towards an increasing share of bioenergy" is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and is ongoing from May 2014 until December 2019. Participating researchers are professor Robert Lundmark (project leader) from the Division of Social Sciences (Economics); associate professor Elisabeth Wetterlund and associate professor Joakim Lundgren from the Division of Energy Sciencies; professor Simon Harvey from Chalmers University and doctor Karin Pettersson from Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE). The project is administrated within the research school "Forskarskola Energisystem" coordinate from Linköpings University and which is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.
