Blue value chains in small-scale fisheries

This research aims to map regional economic spillovers for small-scale and regional fisheries for human consumption. We will use a survey of small-scale fishermen to map how the catches in the regional fishery are used, for example how much is sold on for processing in other companies and how much is used by the fishermen themselves in other business activities. The study will not only study value added from small-scale fishing as such, but also map peripheral activities that the fishermen involved use the fish for, such as guided tours, café activities and similar activities that these fishermen carry out in connection with the fishing itself and the regional economic spillover effects that these generate.
The study is financed through two parallel projects at the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
