Capital, Gender, and Context: Financing Strategies of Women Entrepreneurs in Rural Areas
The purpose of the project is to increase knowledge about how women entrepreneurs in rural areas overcome financing barriers and develop alternative financing strategies to create conditions for growth.
Women’s entrepreneurship plays a significant role in employment, growth, and vibrant rural communities. At the same time, access to traditional business financing can be limited. Geographical distance from banks and other financial institutions, combined with local business structures and gender norms, risks further hindering women’s ability to finance and develop their businesses.
The project aims to increase understanding of how women entrepreneurs in rural areas overcome financing barriers and develop alternative financing strategies to create conditions for growth. The project also examines how local contexts, social networks, and business promotion initiatives influence women’s scope for action.
The goal is to contribute research-based and practically applicable knowledge that strengthens women entrepreneurs’ financing strategies and growth opportunities. The results will also provide a basis for more targeted and equitable support measures and contribute to sustainable business and rural development.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with business stakeholders in Norrbotten and Västerbotten.
