The Green Transition and Workplace Conditions in the Construction Sector
The project analyzes how the green transition shapes and is shaped by the work environment and systematic occupational health and safety efforts in the Swedish construction sector.

This transition places greater demands on reuse, renovation, recycling, and new building materials, which is changing work processes, professional roles, and the division of responsibilities in construction projects. While new opportunities are created through technological advancements and new forms of professional development, new occupational health and safety risks also arise, linked to, for example, selective demolition, handling of older materials, and new production methods. The project focuses specifically on how organizational occupational health and safety issues are affected in a construction sector characterized by temporary project organizations, contractor chains, and complex coordination among many stakeholders.
The project combines a systematic literature review with interviews with various occupational groups within the construction sector, such as safety representatives, construction workers, foremen, and managers. The analysis focuses on how occupational health and safety risks, responsibilities, and collaboration change in connection with the transition, as well as the organizational conditions required for effective preventive occupational health and safety work. The goal is to develop knowledge and recommendations that can strengthen occupational health and safety efforts in the construction sector’s green transition.
