Digital 2030

The region of northern Sweden is currently undergoing an industrial transition, with the emergence of industries that contribute to the green transition. These industries require Cloud-Edge-IoT services to support their business operations.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region are developing and bringing innovative solutions to the market through product development and business development efforts. This strengthens the regional capacity to harness the opportunities presented by digitalisation.
Aims
The aim of “Digital 2030” is to leverage the potential of digitalisation to foster innovative solutions in SMEs across the industry sector in northern Sweden. The purpose of the project is to understand the patterns of technology use by these SMEs and identify their collaboration needs to support the adoption of Cloud, Edge, and IoT technologies. The project is linked to the university's Center for Distance-Spanning Technologies (CDT) Opens in new window., and engages researchers in direct collaboration with SMEs across upper Norrland to assist them in accelerating their growth through the use of advanced digital technologies.
Project scope and data
The project will use mixed methods to analyse technology use patterns and collaboration needs of SMEs in northern Sweden’s industry sector, focusing on Cloud, Edge and IoT technologies. Data collection will include surveys, interviews with SME leaders to explore digital transformation challenges, case studies of successful technology adoption in regional SMEs, as well as observational data from site visits to document current tech infrastructure.
