About our research
Research in law concerns how legal rules are designed, applied, and interpreted. It can explain why a particular legal system looks the way it does, what consequences it has, and how any unwanted or unforeseen effects can be avoided.
Research in Law at Luleå University of Technology is strong in legal issues related to the environment, natural resources and land-use conflicts, as well as minority and Indigenous rights.
Our researchers collaborate closely internally with both the social sciences and the technical–natural science research fields at Luleå University of Technology. The legal science group at Luleå University of Technology has an extensive national and international network of contacts, including researchers, industry, political decision-makers, civil society, and the legal profession.
We are frequently engaged as experts in, among other things, the Government Official Reports (Statens offentliga utredningar) and participate in various advisory bodies and research networks, including the Climate Policy Council (Klimatpolitiska rådet), The Arctic Six, the SNS Scientific Council, SUN, UNIVERSEH, the International Research Association on Circular Economy (IRACE), and the International Waste Working Group (IWWG).
