Mining and Rock Engineering from Luleå University of Technology recognized in Krakow
Researchers from Mining and Rock Engineering at Luleå University of Technology recently participated in the 13th conference organized by the European Federation of Explosives Engineers (EFEE) in Krakow. The conference brought together experts from all over the world to discuss new findings in blasting technology and rock mechanics.
Two research projects from the University attracted particular interest: one on sheared boreholes in the Kiirunavaara mine, presented by Vikum Sri Mendis together with Nikos Petropoulos and Carlota R. San Miguel, and one on the impact of guide holes on blast damage in tunneling, presented by PhD student Carlota R. San Miguel.
- We are pleased to have actively participated in the EFEE conference in Krakow. It was an inspiring and rewarding experience to be part of an international platform where new ideas and innovations meet, says Carlota R. San Miguel, PhD student at Luleå University of Technology.
The participation highlighted the strong collaboration between the university and industry - with partners such as LKAB, Swebrec and Shell - in the work for safer and more efficient blasting in mining and tunneling applications.
