Compassionate Schools – co-creating learning environments that recognise and address dying, death and bereavement
This project has received seed funding from PRECISE to develop ideas and approaches for raising issues related to dying, death and bereavement in school settings and with children and young people.
Using an approach inspired by participatory action research, we aim—together with stakeholders from schools and other community organisations working with young people, as well as an interdisciplinary research group—to discuss and co-create ideas and initiatives that promote healthy learning environments by addressing existential issues such as serious illness, dying, death and bereavement. The project is currently focused on applying for long-term funding.
External partners include the Municipality of Luleå, Ung Cancer (Young Cancer) and Hej främling. A scientific advisory group brings together researchers from Scotland and Belgium, as well as from Karolinska Institutet, Mälardalen University and Uppsala University.
