About us
The subject area of Operations and Maintenance Engineering is interdisciplinary, cross-cutting and depicts many fields of science and emerging technologies. The activities of the department are focused on finding synergies with other engineering disciplines and construction networks with many active research groups, locally and globally.
The department has received grants from the EU and Swedish research funding bodies such as VINNOVA and SSF.
The Division has launched the International Journal of System Assurance Engineering and Management published by Springer. The establishment of the SKF college technical center for advanced condition monitoring has provided the division with a platform for the development of predictive technologies. In addition, two e-maintenance laboratories are operating at Luleå University of Technology and LKAB, Kiruna.
A permit monitoring laboratory has been established at the division. The department is competent and equipped technically to conduct research in the emerging areas of big data, predictive and prescriptive analytics.
The increasing awareness in industry and academia that maintenance ensures a reliable and sustainable performance and creates additional value to the business process, the department is collaborating towards this goal with industries, academics and researchers.
History of the subject
The research subject of Operation and Maintenance Engineering was formed as a new emerging academic research subject in 2001. Since then, the Division has been continuously working to establish itself as a pioneer and leading research group in the field of operations and maintenance engineering.
