Working Packages
NRPCES project activities has been divided into 7 Work Packages (WPs).
WP1 - Project management and administration
WP leader: Luleå University of Tachnology- Sweden
The objectives of WP1 are to:
- Provide the systematic framework to enable the project to achieve its objectives while fulfilling different demands e.g., cost, time and quality requirements.
- Perform project management, project coordination within WPs, and operation of the Administrative Team.
- Coordination and control of the technical project activities according to WPs.
- Preparation of management reports to the European Commission, quality management, and ethics.
- Communication with the Eureka Commission and information flow within the Consortium.
- Risk management as well as conflict management.
WP2 - Specification and requirements of use-cases and data collection
WP leader: Luleå University of Tachnology- Sweden
All breakdowns of equipment will increase the carbon footprint in varying severity. Currently, companies use CMMS software which is not sustainability sensitive. The challenge is that many sustainability sensitive breakdown parts do not cause operational issues to the USER but results in increased emissions. The need, therefore, is to identify these maintenance parts that characteristically exhibit a function-reduction pattern for emissions trending which could mean identifying the CO2e materials consumption via costs and/or physical measurements or energy consumption patterns or both using IoT devices. Since the WP is aiming for a real-time solution, trending the CO2e materials and energy consumption via costing computation algorithms is the IOT technology which needs to be implemented.
WP3 - Environmental Impacts and Circular Economy
WP leader: Mälardalen University - Sweden
With the EU Green Deal, it has become even more important to monitor and report these improvement actions and to disseminate the activities to increase the effect. In this context, the environmental impacts of the activities to be carried out in the project will be examined in this work package, considering the circular economy and sustainability perspectives.
The main objectives and expected results of the work package are listed below.
- Selection of KPIs to follow to make an accurate environmental impact assessment, demonstrate the benefits of activities and justify further dissemination steps.
- Optimal replacement time tracking for use case machines by focusing on parameters such as energy consumption, environmental pollution parameters, profitability from the KPIs to be followed.
- Determining intensity metrics to better understand efficiency, sustainability, and other side benefits, and thus comparing all factory and devices in certain parameters. For instant, device and process-based carbon footprint tracking for sustainability impact analysis.
- Calculation of emission related additional cost and its relation with optimal replacement time of machineries.
WP4 - Utilizing innovation in inspection techniques and maintenance processes
WP leader: Sirris - Belgium
The objective of WP4 is to monitor the asset status and estimate their remaining useful life. For this, WP will investigate which techniques and best practices are already being used in industrial environments. This WP will explore this in more detail through a barrier/enabler analysis with respect to the specific use cases. Finally, using this information, WP will come up with suitable techniques for estimation of remaining life in a modular way. This will ensure the flexibility of the techniques to be employed in a wide range of industrial environments.
WP5 - Economic Replacement Time (ERT) model development
WP leader: Trafiksverket-Sweden
The goal of this WP is to be able to derive probabilistic input data for the ERP decision support tools. The methodology to integrate RAMS with LCC is in line with the European standards on RAMS (EN 50126) and LCC analysis (EN 60300). After data collection associated to RAMS and LCC (seeWP2), RAMS analyses, RAMS simulations and the LCC assessment will be carried out in this WP.
WP6 - Platform development, Validation and Full-scale Demonstration
WP leader: Predge-Sweden
This work package focuses on platform development, validation, and industrial demonstration. It also involves visualisations and monitoring which will be used to extract valuable insights from the data and for predictive maintenance and aid the decision makers. Demonstrations of each use case and results obtained regarding each specific requirement validation and evaluation of each use case will be caried out.
WP7 - Project Dissemination, Exploitation, and Marketing Activities
WP leader: Mälardalen University - Sweden
The objective of this WP is to disseminate and exploit NRPCES results to industry, scientific community, public policy and related authorities. We will also promote NRPCES results to a broader audience through social media (e.g., Twitter), relevant magazines (e.g., IEEE Spectrum), and workshops (e.g., workshops co-located with annual international conference on sustainability for ICT -ICT4S and International workshops.
The dissemination work will be performed in national and international venues related to promoting sustainable ICT as well as trade fairs and industrial events and exhibitions. Moreover, an online repository of short presentations will be developed as a basis for industrial and academic competence building.
