New publication from Navigate
NAVIGATE researcher Sverker C. Jagers, together with colleagues at the University of Gothenburg, has published a study in the prestigious journal PNAS.
In the article "Mass support for conserving 30% of the Earth by 2030: Experimental evidence from five continents", Jagers, together with political scientists Patrik Michaelsen and Aksel Sundström, examines what popular support for the 30–30 goal looks like around the world. The analyses are based on an opinion poll conducted in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Spain, Sweden, South Africa and the USA in 2024. A total of just over 12,000 people from the eight countries participated in the survey. The results show that a large majority (between 66-90%) were positive about the 30–30 goal. This is despite the fact that the participants were informed that increased nature protection may entail costs for certain groups.
