AUTONOMIC
Autonomous Robots for Environmental Monitoring of Nordic Regions
Typical environment sampling currently relies on traditional manual sampling and monitoring methods, restricting physical reachability in remote areas due to rugged terrain, weather conditions, and logistical challenges.
AUTONOMIC will introduce a paradigm shift by implementing an AI-empowered robotic system for autonomous, periodic environmental monitoring of snow, water, and soil, promoting sustainable development in northern regions, and fostering cross-border collaboration and innovation between Sweden and Finland.
The project will study and demonstrate technologies for sampling and detection of industry-related and climate change-related compounds and pollutants, towards enhancing our understanding of climate change acceleration in Arctic regions. AUTONOMIC will demonstrate its technologies in the runoff water of the Tornio River into the Baltic Sea, in melting snow, and in stormwater, enriching understanding of biodiversity loss, sea acidification, snowmelt timing, and water eutrophication.
