Le'Colaz
Circular, Modular, and Smart Construction for a Sustainable Future Building a low-carbon, resilient world through innovation, intelligence, and circular design.
The construction sector currently relies on linear building and renovation practices that generate significant waste, consume large amounts of raw materials, and limit adaptability to changing environmental and societal needs. With much of Europe's building stock underperforming in terms of energy efficiency, traditional approaches are no longer sufficient to meet climate neutrality targets and circular economy ambitions.
Le' Colaz will introduce a paradigm shift by implementing a modular, circular, and digitally enabled construction framework that transforms buildings into adaptable, resource-efficient systems. By combining snap-fit components made from bio-based and recycled materials with intelligent monitoring and decision-support tools, the project promotes sustainable renovation, reduced material waste, and long-term building resilience, in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus.
Objectives
The project will develop and demonstrate technologies for circular modular construction, real-time material monitoring, and AI-supported renovation planning. Through the integration of IoM² (Internet of Materials Module) and IoB² (Internet of Building Brain), Le' Colaz will enable predictive maintenance, optimized component reuse, and compliance-aware renovation strategies. The framework will be validated in Living Labs in Athens and Trondheim, demonstrating measurable improvements in energy performance, circularity, and adaptability across diverse climatic and regulatory contexts.
