Arktisk satellitkommunikation integrering av LEO satellitkommunikation och markbundna system för 6G i glesbygd
The purpose of this project is to strengthen our research expertise in Arctic satellite communication. The research focus lies in the integration of satellite communication with low-Earth-orbit satellites and terrestrial communication, which has been identified as a key concept for sparsely populated areas in the sixth generation of mobile communication solutions.
The knowledge gained will be crucial in solving the long-standing problem of poor wireless connectivity across vast rural areas, particularly in northern Sweden. Examples of research questions include: (1) How can satellite communication and terrestrial communication collaborate and be jointly optimized to provide the best and most cost-effective wireless broadband access in various types of rural areas and situations? (2) Can low-Earth-orbit satellite communication, combined with flexible terrestrial systems, organically enable broadband access in rural areas, driven by the users themselves? That is, without requiring commercial operators to install expensive fixed base stations with tall masts.
