Structural Control and Identification of Civil Engineering Structures
- Structural Identification: nowadays, applications of system identification in civil engineering are extensively spread particularly in the field of damage detection for many reasons. First of all, the Finite-Element (FE) model developed from design drawings has many possible error sources. Secondly, the ever-growing complication of structures and the use of new building materials enforce more restrictions on the finite-element model’s precision. Thirdly, owing to the cost concerns, there is a crucial need for sufficient and dependable methods for evaluating the actual conditions of aged structures in order to take the best judgments concerning their rehabilitation.
- Structural Control: the idea of control system is not recent. It was used by the ancient Egyptians in many of their inventions like controlling the opening of temple doors by lighting a fire which was invented by hero of Alexandria about (B.C. 200-300). Nowadays using of structural control systems to alleviate the responses of civil engineering structures under the effects of different kinds of dynamics loadings become common and their future use seems to be hopeful. These devices classified into four groups (Passive, Active, Semi active, Hybrid) based on their performance mechanism. The current interest of our research group is the semi active control devices.
