Multiscale studies on corrosion-induced bond deterioration of reinforced concrete
Background
The development of technology enables the study of the corrosion of steel bars in concrete at various scales (such as micro and macro), facilitating a comprehensive exploration of the effects of corrosion phenomena on reinforced concrete structures. There is still a lack of research on the impact of various degrees of corrosion on the bond deterioration between steel bars and concrete. Microphysical characterization methods can assist macroscopic experiments in analyzing changes in material properties, while molecular dynamics simulations can analyse local key characteristics of materials at the nanoscale. With multiple scales, the mechanisms of corrosion and bond deterioration can be better understood.
Aim and objectives
The aim is to improve the bond deterioration of reinforced concrete under corrosion.
The objectives are to investigate the bond deterioration mechanisms of RC concrete under corrosion, to conduct the multiscale studies based on the above subject and to extend the application of molecular dynamics methods in civil engineering.
