Sensitivity analysis for uncertainty quantification
StormTac Web is used to model stormwater quality and treatment efficiency of various stormwater control measures. Further, modelling design flows/volumes and retention to prevent flooding can be done based on the rational method. The model is widely used especially in Scandinavia when designing stormwater facilities.
There is a strong demand among the users to obtain knowledge on the extent of uncertainties of modelled results. Such knowledge could help in deciding whether more investigations would be needed or not, to make sure that a planned investment would provide the desired effect, such as treatment capacity, or flood resistance. In the first phase of the project, LTU and StormTac Corporation jointly develop a methodology to quantify uncertainties, e.g., concerning runoff coefficients, precipitation, size of watershed area, and pollution concentrations in stormwater discharge.
Further work concerns development of the StormTac database. The development refers to input data for calculations of pollutants from stormwater and regarding calculation of treatment effect in ponds and biofilters. The development refers to a literature search, and processing of all data in the database with complete references and reviewed data. The methodology can also be used in tools other than StormTac Web. This makes the results relevant both in research and practice. Decision-makers receive a better basis for action decisions.
Vinnova supports this project through its designated research funding for SME partners in the competence centre.
