Stormwater biofilters: design, function and maintenance
Stormwater biofilters are a green infrastructure technology whose main purpose is to remove pollutants from stormwater. Biofilters can also help reduce peak flows and beautify the urban environment.
The technology is still relatively new and innovative. Especially in Sweden, but also globally, there is a lack of experience and knowledge about functionality with respect to many different pollutant groups and treatment processes as well as functionality over time. Drizzle addresses these challenges and brings together several aspects with different focuses. These include investigations of treatment processes in filter materials and vegetation, overall treatment performance of filters with different designs, and long-term functionality and maintenance needs.
