Reducing stormwater pollution in swales
Grassed areas and other green infrastructure such as swales and infiltration areas not only have the function of diverting stormwater but can also play an important role in reducing pollutants in stormwater.
Infiltration of stormwater into the underlying soil is an important process for reducing pollutants in swales and infiltration areas. In this way, pollutants become trapped and accumulate in the soil. This raises the question of how to deal with the potentially contaminated soil during maintenance and reconstruction of swales.
