DRIZZLE proudly presents its first industrial PhD!
Robert Furén, NCC External link, opens in new window. became the first of DRIZZLE's industrial doctoral students to defend his thesis. Furén is employed by NCC, which has financed his doctoral studies within "DRIZZLE - center for stormwater management
External link, opens in new window.".
Furén's research aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of various industry participants on how to design, build and manage so-called green infrastructure in a long-term sustainable way for stormwater management in our cities.
The research has mainly been conducted on stormwater biofilters in Sweden, but studies have also been conducted on facilities in the USA in collaboration with Ohio State University. Among other things, some of the environmental risks that can arise from the accumulation of pollutants in biofilters when treating stormwater in urban environments and cold climates have been evaluated. This is mainly to contribute to a greater understanding of the environmental risks that exist during the operation and maintenance of stormwater biofilters, as well as how sediment and spent filter material should be handled.
- I am looking forward to use my knowledge I have accumulated during my time as a PhD student at LTU into business for the benefit of NCC, says Doctor Robert Furén.
The defense took place on February 28 in Urban Water Engineering External link, opens in new window. with the thesis Stormwater bioretention systems: Water quality treatment and long-term pollutant accumulation

The opponent was Jon Hathaway from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA.
