Brazilian PhD Candidate Joins Research Exchange at Luleå University of Technology
The Urban Water Engineering research group at Luleå University of Technology has welcomed Rayssa Jacob, a PhD candidate from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Brazil, where Rayssa conducts research on constructed wetlands for domestic wastewater treatment within the BIOTEMA research group. Her work focuses on strengthening basic sanitation, especially through treatment solutions for small and isolated communities.
Over the next nine months, Rayssa is a visiting researcher at Luleå University of Technology. This has been made possible through the CAPES Foundation’s “sandwich PhD” exchange program, which enables Brazilian doctoral students to pursue part of their studies abroad. In Luleå, Rayssa will take part in the ArcticSewlutions project. This initiative addresses the challenges of wastewater treatment and management in cold, sparsely populated regions, with a particular emphasis on climate adaptation and the mitigation of emerging pollutants.
“I am very much looking forward to collaborating with my Swedish colleagues,” says Rayssa.
