New PhD candidate for isotopic tracing and modeling in stormwater biofilters
Eleni Remi Kofteridi has joined the Urban Water Engineering research group at Luleå University of Technology as a PhD student in November 2025.
Her main research focuses on the potential fates, transport, and transformation of organic micropollutants in natural stormwater systems. By applying chemical process models developed from laboratory experiments to full-scale systems, she aims to provide new insights into the processes that influence biofilters.
She holds an M.Sc. in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Her master’s thesis focused on surface-modified banana fibers for adsorbing pharmaceuticals and nutrients in synthetic wastewater, combining laboratory experiments with data analysis to evaluate treatment performance.
At Luleå University of Technology, Eleni will be engaged in the new project Isotopic tracing and process-based modeling to identify pathways of toxic substances in stormwater biofilters.
