Smart and Robust Stormwater Management in a Subarctic Climate
Umeå Municipality, together with Umeå Vatten och Avfall (Water and Waste), Vakin (Water and Waste Competence in the North) and Luleå University of Technology, has been granted 36 million SEK by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket) for a new project on smart and robust stormwater management in a subarctic climate.
The project includes the implementation of several climate adaptation measures for the stormwater system in the city of Umeå, Northern Sweden. This includes work on urban and partly culverted watercourses. Snow management, and the necessary adjustments to it in order to adapt to future climate conditions, is an important aspect to ensure that the solutions function well even in a subarctic climate. In collaboration with the other partners, Luleå University of Technology will conduct research activities related to the measurement and modeling of stormwater systems and climate scenarios.
