New project - BalticGrow
The new Interreg South Baltic project BalticGrow is an international collaboration involving Stormwater&Sewers and the Urban Water Engineering research group at Luleå University of Technology. The project runs for three years and is led by Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland). Other partners include IWEN Energy Institute (Germany), Bornholms Energi & Forsyning, Danish Tourism Innovation (Denmark), R&D Project (Poland), and the Lithuanian College of Engineering (Lithuania).
BalticGrow focuses on promoting multifunctional green roofs to address urban challenges such as stormwater management, reduction of heat islands, and strengthening of biodiversity. The project combines hydrological modelling, material testing, and IoT‑based monitoring to create a decision‑support toolbox and a technology catalogue for municipalities and companies. Luleå University of Technology contributes to the technical evaluation of green infrastructure performance regarding stormwater quantity and quality. In addition, already installed green roofs will be assessed, and a dialogue will be held with municipalities and companies; regulatory frameworks will be analysed to support sustainable implementation throughout the Baltic Sea region.
