New Horizon Europe project: RENEW-Futures
Urban Water Engineering at Luleå University of Technology is a partner in the RENEW-Futures consortium, recently awarded EU Horizon Europe funding.pe program.
The project supports delivery of the European Commission’s New European Bauhaus initiative, advancing sustainable, inclusive and beautiful built environments through regenerative, water-smart neighbourhood design at scale. Other partners in the international project consortium are universities, companies and municipalities from the UK (with the University of Bath as project leader), the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Greece, and Canada.
RENEW-Futures aims to transform urban planning by integrating environmental, social and cultural dimensions within a unified, evidence-based framework. Central to this is the development of a digital, participatory ecosystem that supports decision-making across the built environment lifecycle while addressing climate resilience, resource efficiency and community wellbeing.
The contribution of Luleå University of Technology focuses on rethinking stormwater management, with a focus on blue-green infrastructure to deliver multiple benefits. We will also support the integration of stormwater management within a digital twin environment, exploring alternative scenarios through immersive technologies.
