Our research on sanitation systems
Current projects
-
ProWater: The use of industrial side products as secondary resources in wastewater treatment (2024-2027)
ProWater focuses on industrial by-products to be used for water treatment processes.
-
ArcticSewlutions: Sewage management in cold and sparsely populated regions: solutions for the Arctic in view of a changing climate and emerging contaminants (2024-2027)
This project focuses on wastewater management in arctic communities with the aim to decrease the impacts of wastewater-related pollutant discharges to the arctic environment.
-
Greywater for REuse: Where, why and how? (2022-2027)
In this project we investigate greywater reuse focusing on the sustainability transition process in utilities, micropollutant occurrence and removal for safe reuse and decision support in form of systems analysis. The work is funded by The Swedish Research Council (Formas).
-
Instructions for operation and maintenance of on-site soil-based wastewater treatment (2022-2023)
In this project we investigate to what extent instruction for operation and maintenance of on-site sand filters and infiltration fields are available and evaluate if there is a need for modification of the guidance for supervision of onsite systems, the systems’ instructions and / or design.
-
Creaternity – sustainable material use in a connected and circular economy (2020-...)
The transition to a sustainable industry provides opportunities to think new and thus develop the whole society. The latest technology in artificial intelligence, telecommunications and sensor technology allows us to connect people, products and processes.
-
Sustainable URban FERtilizer – SURFER (2021-2024)
Within the SURFER project we are contributing with new knowledge for development of safe treatment and recycling of nutrients from blackwater, for production of a sustainable urban fertilizer.
-
The untapped potential of greywater: Decentralised treatment for blue-green urban spaces (2019-2023)
The untapped potential of greywater: Decentralised treatment and use for blue-green public spaces.
-
Constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment: Adaptation to cold climate (2020-2023)
This project investigates the suitability of using a two-stage vertical-flow constructed wetland as wastewater treatment method for small communities in subarctic climate. The work is funded by the Swedish Research Council Formas and the municipality of Luleå with "LOVA" funding from the regional au...
