PFAS in stormwater (2025–2026)
Only a limited number of studies have reported on the occurrence of PFAS in stormwater, even though existing research shows that PFAS are frequently present.
In this project, stormwater from two to three areas with different land uses will be investigated. Changes in PFAS concentrations during runoff events will be monitored using so-called pollutographs. These pollutographs show when PFAS are transported with the stormwater - whether early or late during the runoff event - and can help identify specific sources. It is also important to understand which PFAS are typically present in stormwater in order to develop and implement appropriate treatment methods.
Both dissolved and total concentrations of PFAS, as well as ultrashort-chain PFAS, will be studied. In addition to PFAS, metals and certain physico-chemical parameters will also be analyzed for comparison, as these are well studied in stormwater.
The project is funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
