UNDERWATER
UNDERWATER is a long-term transition lab dedicated to circular and environmentally sound management of stormwater sediments. By uniting technical innovation, policy development and practitioner collaboration, the lab seeks to transform the perception and handling of urban sediments – from waste to resource.
UNDERWATER is part of the Impact Innovation: Transition Labs within Water Wise Societies 2025 – for Sustainable Water for All, funded by Vinnova and Water Wise Societies.
Its work is organised around three development journeys: Smart maintenance and sampling in stormwater systems, Framework for maintenance and sediment management, and Safe recovery and reuse of stormwater sediments. Together, these development journeys contribute to all three missions of Water Wise Societies – Resilient water supply and management in society, Wise water use and Thriving lakes, streams, and groundwater.
The transition lab brings together 13 partners, including Växjö Municipality, Luleå University of Technology (Urban Water Engineering and Law), Tecomatic AB, Tekniska verken i Linköping, Linköping Municipality, Örebro Municipality, Stockholm Vatten och Avfall, MittSverige Vatten & Avfall, Lumire, the Traffic Department and the Environment and Health Department of the City of Stockholm, and Miljö och Vatten in Örnsköldsvik.
