Our development journeys
Sediments carrying a wide array of urban contaminants are removed from the stormwater flow and retained in urban drainage systems such as gully pots and stormwater ponds. While these facilities protect receiving waters by reducing contaminant loads, inadequate maintenance can trigger cascading effects – including increased flood risk and reduced treatment performance. Moreover, inappropriate handling of sediments may cause detained pollutants to become remobilised and released back into the environment. Yet, these sediments represent a largely untapped resource with significant potential for reuse and recovery.
