“AI-Driven Insights into Political Belief Change and Sustainable Energy Policy” (POLICYSHIFT)
This interdisciplinary project investigates how political beliefs and value shifts influence policy change in Sweden’s energy sector— a key domain in the green transition.
Using advanced computational methods, including natural language processing and machine learning, the project analyzes 30 years of parliamentary debates, party programs, and policy consultations (1990–2024). The aim is to map policy stability and change over time and identify belief-based advocacy coalitions driving these dynamics. By operationalizing political beliefs as problem definitions, goals, and instruments, the project applies AI models to detect patterns and predict when policy change is likely to occur. The seed project brings together political science and data science researchers at LTU, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration. Expected outcomes include a peer-reviewed article, an interdisciplinary workshop, and a foundation for a Horizon Europe proposal. The project contributes to both academic research and practical tools for anticipating policy shifts critical to sustainability governance.
