“Sustainable Culture-driven Development of Industrial Locations”
The green transition is fundamentally reshaping industrial towns and communities, yet the social and cultural dimensions of this transformation remain underexplored.
This project aims to integrate the industrial and cultural sectors to contributing to social sustainability, community engagement, and place attractiveness in industrial communities affected by the transition. Through a feasibility study involving a new collaboration between researchers within Political science and School of mines at Luleå University of Technology and the local cultural sector in Luleå, the project will organize workshops with key actors to map existing examples, analyze the needs of key groups, and develop a project plan for a larger development initiative. The goal is to identify cross-sectoral approaches and models that enhance societal benefits in connection to the extraction of metals and minerals, particularly concerning skills provision, identity, and local anchoring.
