Entry requirements: Admitted to third-cycle studies at LTU.

Course content: The course comprises project management theory and concepts, with a specific focus on project planning. The participants in the course will use their own research studies as a case, i.e., to learn about project management by planning the studies from a project perspective.

Competence and skills
After completing the course, the doctoral student should have obtained the competence and skills to:
- apply concepts, methods, and principles regarding project planning and management, including a gender and equality perspective
- apply principles and methods in project planning create a project plan with the aim of carrying out doctoral studies in an effective and appropriate way (in the course called a doctoral project)
Judgement and approach
After completing the course, the doctoral student should be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- critically reflect on how different activities in a doctoral project need to be planned structured and prioritized, with the aim of achieving an independent researcher
- critically reflect on project management from different perspectives, for example, leadership, organizational, gender and equality perspectives
The above learning outcomes implies that this course targets the following national criteria for a doctoral degree, as numbered in Appendix B to the individual study plan: 2.2, 2.6 and 3.1.
Course methods: To obtain the learning outcomes, problem-based and active learning is the overall method used. During most of the course, the participants apply and discuss different concepts, methods and principles based on their own doctoral project in the development of their own doctoral project plan.
Examination form: Oral examination is at the end of the course, where concepts, methods and principles are discussed, based on different perspectives on a doctoral project, the
student’s project plan. Finally, the examination process ends with a written individual reflection of the participant’s learning process.
Grading scale: Pass/Fail
