The course demands 80 working hours from participants, which is equivalent to 3 etcs.
Furthermore, the course offers up to 40 hours of non-assessed material which helps in shaping and practicing the communication skills

Aim:
This course aims at improving teachers’ ability to structure, plan, create, perform, and evaluate high quality oral presentations. In the light of continueous improvement of pedagogical skills, teachers are intended to both, self-reflect and act as critical friend to colleagues during the course.
Course content: This course focuses on the most important aspects of presentation and communication:
· Essentials (common issues, overcoming stage fright, proper tech setup and material)
· Vocal aspects (pace, register, volume, pauses)
· Body and posture (posture, dramatizing effects, pointing, variation)
· Facial expression (eye contact, neutral expression, functional expressions)
· Stage aspects (stage areas, movement, amplification)
· Language (negation, strategic language, rhetoric)
· Reflection over own improvement and relation to impact of audience and student learning
Learning outcomes: The main purpose of this course is to study and practice advanced presentation and communication skills in a structured way.
1. Evaluate available learning environment to optimize learning through oral lecture
2. Discuss using digital resources with relevance for teacher development
3. Describe/Identify different critical aspects of presentation techniques for improving presentations to increase attention, comprehension and learning.
4. Apply structured methods to improve presentation skills and general communication
5. Evaluate and reflect over need for development in relation to presentation technique and oral communication
Course methods: Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website.
Short video lectures, live hybrid sessions, 2 live physical workshops (one at the start and one towards the end with the theatre researchers), assignments (for teams of 2-4 people). The video lectures contain the main theoretic aspects, in the live workshop, participants present, applying their knowledge and get feedback, and in the assignments, individual and group tasks are performed.
Examination form: If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.
Intermediate report, final (graded) reflective summary with presentation and question answering, presentations during the live meetings.
Grading scale: Pass/Fail.
