Admission Requirements
Admitted to a doctoral program at LTU.

Prerequisites:
Admitted to doctoral studies in the fields of natural sciences or engineering.

Course content:
The purpose of the course is to provide an introduction to established techniques for characterizing materials, namely X-ray diffraction (XRD). The following topics will be covered in the course:

- Fundamentals of XRD;

- Lattices and crystal structures;

- X-ray diffractometers;

- Data collection and applications.

Learning objectives:
The student should be able to understand and explain the basics of XRD, lattices and crystal structures of materials, and X-ray diffractometers, and be familiar with the basic operation of data collection and applications.

Course structure:
The course consists of a number of lectures covering the theoretical part of the course, a mandatory student-led seminar, and a mandatory laboratory session.

Assessment:
The course is assessed through a written exam and a lab report
