HLT0010 Precision health – perspectives and applications

Admitted to PRECISE graduate school or admitted to third-cycle education program.

The course is provided for doctoral students affiliated with PRECISE graduate school. Subject to availability, the course may be open to other doctoral students.
Course content:
The course aims to provide knowledge and understanding of how perspectives and theoretical frameworks can be applied to promote the development of innovative multidisciplinary precision health. Areas covered include health outcomes, implementation, sustainability and societal impact of precision health for equal health through the lifespan.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course, the doctoral student should be able to demonstrate in-depth:
- knowledge of perspectives and theoretical frameworks for application in precision health
- understanding of how different perspectives and theoretical frameworks can contribute to knowledge production in precision health and to an equal health throughout the life span
Skills and abilities
After completing the course, the doctoral student should be able to demonstrate in-depth:
- ability to describe and communicate opportunities and challenges with precision health.
- ability to discuss and argue for research of relevance to precision health and position own research project in relation to health outcomes
Values and attitudes
After completing the course, the doctoral student should be able to demonstrate the ability to critically reflect on:
- the importance of multidisciplinary research and collaboration with society for the development of precision health.
- research in precision health from different perspectives such as implementation, sustainability, societal impact, ethics and equality.
Course methods:
The course language is English. Students’ learning is based on course literature, discussion seminars and oral presentations. The student study literature in relation to the learning outcomes as preparation for discussions and presentations in seminars. The course is carried out with a combination of distance methodology and campus-based education. Parts of the course are located on campus for conducting examination seminars and oral presentations. The course has its pedagogical foundation in the university's pedagogical idea. This way of working is characterized by each doctoral student being inspired to engage and take an active role in the learning process. The doctoral student will actively seek and solve problems through an investigative and critically reflective approach. Learning in the course takes place through literature studies, lectures, seminars, oral presentations and discussions.
Examination form:
The course will be examined orally through seminars and presentations.
