About me
Field of research
Abdalla’s work focuses on construction and evaluation of mine cover systems with upgraded soil. Abdalla is particularly engaged in optimizing the geometry and material properties of cover layers to enhance their hydraulic performance and ensure long‑term performance. This includes developing better approaches for evaluating how cover systems behave under different conditions.
Abdalla’s research also extends to the design of sulfidic soil landfill cover systems, with a strong emphasis on evaluating and applying thin cover systems as practical tools for performance testing and prediction. Through this work, Abdalla aims to advance construction guidelines and provide scientifically grounded recommendations that support more efficient, sustainable, and reliable cover system designs for both mining and sulfidic soil‑management applications.
Background
Abdalla Saafan holds a master’s degree in civil engineering with a specialization in Geomechanics and Risks from Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), France (2023). Before that, Abdalla completed a Pre‑master’s program in Geotechnical Engineering at Tanta University, Egypt (2020–2022). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, specializing in Soil Mechanics and Foundations, from Mansoura University, Egypt (2015–2020).
