About me
As an emerging researcher in the field of building materials, I possess a keen interest in pioneering advancements that redefine the conventional understanding of construction materials. With a focus on sustainable and innovative solutions, my work is dedicated to looking for new cementitious materials and enhancing the fire resistance, durability, and environmental footprint of building materials. By exploring cutting-edge technologies and materials science, I aim to contribute significantly to the development of more efficient, resilient, and eco-friendly construction practices. My dedication to this field is driven by the potential to impact global infrastructure positively, ensuring it meets the challenges of modern demands and environmental concerns.
Dong has started at Structural Engineering at LTU in August 2023. Previously, Dong holds a Bachelor’s degree from Hunan University of Arts and Science, China, in civil engineering. He had also studied a Master's degree in building materials at Xiangtan University, China. During his Master, he has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Research interests
My research interest focuses on the innovation of new cementitious materials, as well as enhancing their durability, strength, and environmental sustainability. The production of conventional concrete contributes significantly to carbon emissions, driving the need for greener alternatives. I am particularly interested in integrating industrial by-products, such as fly ash and biochar, as supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) to reduce the carbon footprint and improve material properties. Exploring the synergistic effects of these SCMs to optimize concrete's performance is a key objective. Additionally, I focus on improving concrete's fire resistance through innovative additives and mix designs, aiming to enhance thermal stability and structural integrity under extreme temperatures for safer, more resilient buildings. Collaborating across disciplines, my goal is to contribute to sustainable construction practices through advanced concrete technologies.
My objectives are to
- develop methods to predict the fire resistance of building materials,
- provide solutions to reduce the environmental effect of concrete industry,
- quantify the impact of different decisions on the concrete design.
