About
Franz Geronimo’s research interest includes stormwater management through various nature-based strategies including green infrastructures and low impact development. Franz joined the Urban Water Engineering Research Group, Luleå University of Technology (LTU) on March 2024 where he is currently involved in the FORMAS Blue Innovation project. In this project, he explores the interaction between stormwater and groundwater on a quality and quantity aspects. Specifically, he investigates the opportunities to minimize potential risks of infiltrating stormwater to groundwater by monitoring stormwater runoff and groundwater in urban areas.
He earned both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Kongju National University, Republic of Korea in 2013 and 2020, respectively. For his doctoral dissertation, Franz researched on derivation of the selection and design criteria for stormwater nature-based solutions (NBS) considering physico-chemical and biological aspects. Prior to joining LTU, Franz was a Research Professor/Fellow at Kongju National University where he is involved in projects about wetlands and extreme weather. He also handled the course on Environmental Chemistry and Experiments. More information about his professional background and experience may be found here External link, opens in new window..
