I hold a PhD in materials science and engineering and a Master’s in physics. Her research spans:
- micro/nano-scale engineering of advanced high-strength and sustainable steels;
- design and characterisation of hybrid materials;
- corrosion and thermal exposure of advanced aerospace alloys;
- advanced microstructural characterisation of additively manufactured high-temperature Ti-Si-C materials and novel (Si-C) Vulloy;
- additive manufacturing of Ti-6Al-4V alloys from swarf;
- the exploitation of grain orientation and grain boundary characteristics for a novel fundamental model of FCC materials strengthening.
I am a leading specialists in the microstructure-property relationship in metals using a gamut of advanced techniques:
- Atom Probe Tomography;
- electron backscatter diffraction;
- Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopy;
- X-ray/Neutron/Synchrotron diffraction, on the samples prepared by site-specific methods.
In addition to her academic achievements, which include an h-factor of 42 (Google Scholar), 4 book chapters and 180 number of articles in world-renowned science publications. She also has extensive teaching experience including supervising final year, Master’s and PhD students (14 students). She has obtained significant national and international funding from industry bodies, governments and universities, and established a number of successful international collaborations.
