About
Nils Brattgård’s research focuses on the relationship between the quantity of stormwater and groundwater recharge and levels. Separately, some of his research looks into closing the urban water cycle through the use of novel Blue Green Infrastructure solutions, focused on the reuse of stormwater.
In recent years, water scarcity has increased as a response to climate change. Groundwater plays an important role in drinking water production and evening out the effects of droughts. At the same time water is used for irrigation, cleaning, among other activities in urban areas. The ISGM and CUREE research projects thus help in approaching stormwater management from a holistic approach, aiming to use stormwater as a resource.
Nils has an M.Sc. in civil engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology KTH, with a masters in sustainable urban planning and design. His thesis “Community Continuity Management: An Exploration of the Energy Production and Use of a Fictional Stockholm Neighbourhood in a Crisis” focused on the effective use and production of energy in urban environments during crises.
Nils started his PhD studies at the urban water group in May 2023.
