About
Nils Brattgård’s research focuses on the relationship between the quantity of stormwater allowed to infiltrate and groundwater levels. In addition, some of his research looks into closing the urban water cycle through the use of novel Blue-Green Infrastructure solutions allowing for the treatment, collection, and reuse of stormwater.
In recent years, water scarcity has increased as a result of climate change. Groundwater plays an important role in drinking water production in many parts of the world and helps in lessening the effects of droughts. At the same time, water is used for irrigation, cleaning, and many other activities in urbanized environments. The ISGM and CUREE research projects aim to study stormwater management from a holistic point of view, where stormwater is considered a resource that should be used effectively.
Nils has an M.Sc. in engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) focused on sustainable urban planning and design. His thesis “Community Continuity Management: An Exploration of the Energy Production and Use of a Fictional Stockholm Neighbourhood in a Crisis” focused on the effective use and production of energy in urban environments during crises.
Nils started his PhD studies at the urban water group in May 2023.
