Rayssa Jacob
About me
Rayssa's research interests focus on nature-based and decentralized wastewater treatment systems, with special attention to constructed wetlands and their potential to remove emerging contaminants. She is particularly interested in how plant–microbe–substrate interactions influence treatment efficiency and contribute to the resilience of sanitation systems in small and isolated communities.
She has an academic background in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering, holding both a Bachelor's (2019) and a Master's degree (2023) from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Brazil. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Environmental Engineering at UERJ. Her doctoral work aims to evaluate the performance and mechanisms of phytoremediation in constructed wetlands treating domestic wastewater.
As part of the CAPES Foundation's doctoral sandwich program, Rayssa is a visiting researcher at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) under the supervision of Professor Inga Herrmann. Her research at LTU is linked to the ArcticSewlutions project, which addresses sewage management in cold and sparsely populated regions, with an emphasis on climate change adaptation and the management of contaminants of emerging concern.
