Research subject: Urban Water Engineering
Om mig
Ronja Nybom's research is focusing on innovative stormwater management within the ISWIM project, which is linked to the research cluster Dag&Nät. Stormwater transports a variety of different pollutions coming from vehicle tires, facade paint, building materials, dog feces, or litter dropped by inhabitants. These usually end up in the surface water the stormwater is let to. During her doctoral studies, Ronja investigates the presence and surface-effective treatment of pollutants in stormwater runoff in a new constructed wetland in Lund, biofilters and sorption filters as well as a combination of these.
The goal of the research is to gain increased knowledge about the efficiency and conditions for stormwater treatment. This will provide a better understanding of stormwater contamination and possibilities for its removal. In the future, this will enable us to reduce the load on our surface water and create stormwater treatment that is adapted to local needs.
Ronja Nybom was employed as an industrial doctoral student at Sweden Water Research within Dag&Nät at Luleå University of Technology in March 2025. She has an M.Sc. degree in limnology from Uppsala University and in water resource engineering from Lunds University, faculty of engineering. She has previously worked in research projects on methane gas emissions from lakes, aging of green roofs and biological nitrogen removal from wastewater.
