Hello,
I know that many of you are wondering how the planning of our future Campus Luleå is progressing. I fully understand your impatience and your eagerness for news and tangible results – feelings I share with you.
Today, I am pleased to announce that we have taken an important step forward: Luleå University of Technology has now signed a design agreement with Akademiska Hus. This agreement lays the foundation for the continued development of our new buildings and facilities.
At the same time, preparations are underway for a more comprehensive agreement – known as an implementation agreement – which is scheduled to be presented to the University Board for decision in June. This agreement represents the next major milestone on the path towards construction start and future relocation. It will also provide us with a clearer picture of future rental costs, enabling us to move forward with lease agreements in due course.
These are significant and long-awaited steps in the development of FCL – Future Campus Luleå – a long-term investment in modern, sustainable, and inspiring environments for education, research, and collaboration.
We will continue to keep you informed as the process moves forward.
Best regards,
Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn
Vice-Chancellor
The background
In November 2023, Luleå University of Technology and Akademiska Hus signed a letter of intent regarding the Future Campus Luleå initiative. The goal is to create a future-proof environment for laboratory operations, study spaces, and offices – all with the lowest possible climate impact.
In December 2024, the design process was temporarily paused to clarify issues related to vibration-sensitive equipment in the MCE lab, as well as to review a list of identified action points.
