Special educational support
If you have a documented permanent disability, you can apply for special educational support during your studies.
Certificate required
As a student, you need a certificate about your functional variation when you apply for special educational support. The certificate must prove that you have a permanent functional variation and be issued by an expert, i.e. a doctor or other licensed healthcare professional, such as an audiologist, speech therapist or psychologist. An expert may also be a special needs teacher with expertise in carrying out literacy assessments.
If you do not have such a certificate, you should contact your county council/region or other healthcare institution that carries out the assessment.
How to apply
- You can apply via the Nais system using the link below. This will take you to another website.
- Once you are registered on the program/course, you will be contacted by a coordinator for a discussion about your educational support needs.
- If your application is successful, the coordinator will send you a letter outlining the support you need.
- If your application is refused, it may be because your attached certificates do not show that you have a permanent disability.
When you have made your application in Nais, you will receive an email from the coordinator for special educational support with a proposal for a time for an interview. At the start of the semester, it can take up to three weeks before we contact you. After this call, you will receive a response with recommendations for support.
Support that may be offered
Note-taking support
You ask a fellow student if he/she wants to be a note-taker. That person will be paid for taking notes. Please note that you as a student must be present at lectures and lessons to receive note-taking support.
Student mentor
The role of a student mentor is to act as a support, to encourage and help you to structure and plan your studies. The student mentor provides support - you do the work yourself! The student mentor is compensated for their work.
Hearing aids
You can borrow hearing aids at Service Point after contacting the coordinator for special educational support.
Examination adaptations
Examination adaptations can include extended exam time. Please note that there are rules for exam registration.
