Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week takes place October 5–11. The University Library is marking the week with book displays, a trivia contest with the chance to win great book prizes, and a reading aloud from a banned book.
Throughout the week, the focus is on literature that is or has been banned somewhere in the world.
At the university library, there will be a quiz, a book display, and on Thursday, October 8 at 15:00–16:00, there will be a reading from a banned book: *1984* by George Orwell, but only in Swedish.
A banned book is a book that someone believes no one should be allowed to read. This can mean that a book is not allowed to be published or sold, that its content is censored, or that it is removed from schools and libraries.
Banned Books Week Sweden is organized by the Dawit Isaak Library in Malmö and Swedish PEN.
