Past PolyTrib Conferences
This iteration of the PolyTrib conference series marks the 6th edition.
For the individual programmes and impressions from previous years, please see below.
The 5th International Conference on Polymer Tribology, PolyTrib 2024, took place on 3rd and 4th October 2024 in Portorož, Slovenia, and was a great event that brought together 75 experts in polymer tribology from 16 countries around the world, almost half of them came from the industry.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the first PolyTrib conference, which took place in the city of Bled, Slovenia in 2014, and showed an obvious overall growth with ever increasing quality of the conference. PolyTrib 2024 hosted excellent speakers, whom we would like to take this opportunity to thank once again.
The aim of PolyTrib 2024 was to facilitate in-depth discussions on polymer tribology, covering polymer production, applications and user aspects. Over two days, the conference offered a rich programme of lectures, technical presentations, poster sessions, exhibitions and networking opportunities.
Participants discussed in depth a wide range of topics including polymer wear, automotive and transmission applications, sustainability in polymer-based materials, applications in the energy sector, recycling strategies and the circular economy of tribological components made from polymer materials. Other topics included bio-based polymer composites, solid lubricants, 3D-printed polymers, polymers in hydrogen technology and biotribology. The breadth of knowledge exchanged emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in tackling the current challenges in polymer tribology.
PolyTrib 2022 took place on December 4th & 5th 2022 in Stockholm, for the first time in Sweden. The 4th edition of its history marked the beginning of the collaboration between Slovenia and Sweden, so the conference will be held interchangeably between Slovenia and Sweden every two years from now on.
In the program were 36 talks on very diverse topics related to the Tribology of polymers: from elastomers to high-performance poly4ers, from cryogenic to high temperatures in dry and lubricated conditions. Researchers from institutions from 12 different countries presented the newest findings of their work. The conference was co-chaired by Prof. Mitjan Kalin and Prof. Nazanin Emami. Ten invited speakers were present during the two days of the conference and highlighted the prospects of research on Tribology of polymers.
The 3rd International Conference on Polymer Tribology, PolyTrib 2018, was held on the 24th and 25th of September 2018 in Portorož, an attractive Slovenian resort town by the seaside.
The main topic was Polymer Tribology, with a dedicated session on polymer gears as a current industry hot topic and an International workshop on Polymer Tribology. The workshop was organised by the Tribology research group from Luleå University of Technology (Sweden), Kyushu University (Japan) and Laboratory for Tribology and Interface Nanotechnology from University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and supported by STINT, Sweden-Japan 150 Anniversary Grants.
PolyTrib 2018 attracted a variety of participants from both academic and industrial backgrounds. The conference had 70 attendees altogether from 11 different countries, including participants from Africa and Asia, coming from 5 research institutes, 13 universities and 20 companies.
The conference consisted of 27 presentations and 2 posters, including 4 invited lectures, given by Prof. Dr. Valentin Popov (Technical University of Berlin, Germany), Prof. Dr. Yoshinori Sawae (Kyushu University, Japan), Prof. Dr. Roland Larsson (Luleå University of Technology, Sweden), Prof. Dr. Tetsuo Yamaguchi (Kyushu University, Japan) and Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Kissling (KISSsoft, Switzerland). The event was very well received by everyone.
The 2nd International Conference on Polymer Tribology, PolyTrib 2016, was held on the 15th and 16th of September 2016 in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
The main topic was polymer tribology, with an added emphasis on polymer gears, which are a growing industrial trend.
The conference attracted participants from 18 different countries. Academic and industrial institutions were almost equally represented, as PolyTrib 2016 was attended by 18 research institutions and 23 companies.
The conference consisted of 31 presentations and 7 posters, including 5 invited lectures, given by Prof. Dr. Klaus Friedrich (Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany), Dr. Aljaž Pogačnik (KissSoft, Switzerland), Prof. Nazanin Emami (Luleå University of Technology, Sweden), Dr. Janez Navodnik (Navodnik d.o.o, Slovenia), and Dr. Jennifer Renee Vail (DuPont, USA). The event was more than positively received and had great attendance.
The 1st International Conference on Polymer Tribology, PolyTrib 2014, was held on the 11th and 12th of September 2014 in Bled, Slovenia.
The conference addressed the tribological challenges of polymer materials and associated aspects regarding the industrial applications, their design and modeling, materials selection and properties, manufacturing issues, recent advancements, growth potential and others.
Despite being only the first conference, it was attended by over 70 participants from 11 different European countries. It is also important to note that the conference participants came from 17 different research institutes and 20 companies, with as many as 34 participants coming from companies that are related to the tribology of polymer materials.
The conference featured 20 lectures, of which 6 were given by invited lecturers. Additionally, 5 contributions were also presented in the poster session.
