Developing a model for recovery-oriented post-incident conversations after coercive measures in psychiatric care
Post-incident conversations (PICs), when thoughtfully integrated, can likely serve as a means to address the aftermath of coercive measures, reduce trauma, reestablish trust between patients and healthcare personnel, and reduce the likelihood of future coercion. Recovery-oriented principles such as hope, empowerment, and holistic well-being may possibly help transform PICs from procedural reviews into meaningful therapeutic encounters that facilitate recovery rather than aggregating trauma.
This PhD project aims to develop, evaluate, and refine a recovery-oriented model for Post-Incident Conversations (PIC) in compulsory psychiatric care. It will focus on its feasibility, acceptability, and practical application while exploring the experiences of patients and healthcare professionals and identifying barriers and facilitators to its implementation. The project has recieved funding from the Swedish Research Council through the Swedish National Graduate School on Practice- and Patient-Oriented Research in Forensic Psychiatry and Coercive Care (SWEPROF).
