Event that inspired future open data innovation

During 8-9 October, an open data event was held in Skellefteå. The event was organized by the Open Data innitiative created by the group Open North with the participants LTU, Skellefteå- and Umeå Municipalities as well as Umeå University.

During the two days the participants discussed open data as an opportunity for future innovation and new services. The event focused also on how the public sector services can be improved by not only making data available, but also to interact and listen to what information is required and how it can be provided in the best possible way to the citizens. The event inspired the participants by demonstrating the possibilities of open data, and also provided an opportunity to network and exchange experiences in the field. The speakers came from Google, Manchester Digital Development Ageny, SKL, Skellefteå Municipality, Interactive Institute, Hello Future etc.

David Mothander, Google
David joined Google in 2010 and is responsible for the socio-political issues in the Nordic countries, Estonia and Latvia. David focuses on how the Internet is changing our reality from a financial, cultural and social perspectives, and how the regulatory framework around these issues can create conditions to best take advantage of the opportunities available to this.

Dave Carter, Manchester Digital Development Ageny
Dave Carter is Head of Manchester Digital Development Agency (MDDA). MDDA operates Manchester Living Lab, an innovation center with a focus on digital technologies and their applications to support smart and sustainable economic growth. MDDA coordinate strategic initiatives and projects across the city region and Greater Manchester. Dave is currently the President of the European network of Smart Cities Network among other things.

Ellen Sundh, Creative Technologiest
Ellen has a long background as a developer. With a strong focus on interactive media Ellen has constantly been at the forefront in the development of web, mobile and social media. As a freelance Creative Technologist Ellen has worked with some of the leading interactive agencies in Sweden and the UK. With her interest in electronics, she has developed digital campaigns from pure hardware to physical installations that change depending on users' online activity. Ellen was voted the 3rd most creative person in the web industry in Sweden by Internet World 2012 and was the primary developer of "The Sound of Football 'project.
