History of the conferences

Publicerad: 16 maj 2019

This conference is the biennial meeting of the Nordic branch of the International Association of the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) where popular music researchers gather to discuss their work.

Each conference centres around a specific topic. In 2020 it will be “Music in the Age of Streaming – Nordic Perspectives”. The objective of these meetings is to develop the research field through scholarly exchange and debate and enhance collaboration across the Nordic region. This event alternates with the biennial cycle of international conferences organized by its parent organization, the IASPM, which is an international organisation with fifteen local branches spread across the world.

This conference is organised in Piteå, Sweden in co-operation with The Department of Arts, Communication and Education at the Luleå University of Technology, seeing that the event has taken place in Turku (Finland) in 2018, Oslo (Norway) in 2014, and Roskilde (Denmark) in 2012.
