Sustainability focus gave award for best article

Published: 22 April 2015

Andreas Dagman at the research subject Computer Aided Design, along with two other researchers, received the award for best article 2014 of the prestigious Journal of Engineering Design.

The article, entitled Tolerance optimization considering economic and environmental sustainability, shows how to connect product quality with economic and ecological sustainability in the development of new products.

Sustainable product

– Sustainability is increasingly important in the development of new products and solutions. The concept of eco-design emphasizes the importance of environmental considerations in all construction phases and activities. We show a way of working where sustainability has a higher priority than before, while minimizing cost and maintaining the functionality, says Andreas Dagman, senior lecturer in Computer Aided Design (DMK), at Luleå University of Technology.

Support for designers

Within the research area, robust design and variation simulation with a focus on sustainability aspects, Andreas has published a suite of articles.

– The research provides support for design engineers in the late parts of the product development process. They can use our method to balance economic and ecological aspects of the product.

– It is a current topic and it's fun and inspiring that our research are being appreciated and perceived as relevant, says Andreas Dagman.
